Patterns in honeybee pathogens

Environmental Health

Science Animated

We rely on pollinators for much of our food. However, they are in decline worldwide due to risk factors such as climate change and increased movement of invasive pathogenic species. We sequenced the DNA from honey bees across Britain to understand the diversity of their genetics, and their associated microbes (pathogenic and friendly). Using this database, future studies will inform us about interactions between microbial species and how this affects honey bee health and diversity.
