This comprehensive health class focuses on mental health and healthy relationships and aligns with National Health Education Standards (NHES). In the Mental Health section, students will gain a stronger understanding of mental and emotional health, types of anxiety disorders and eating disorders, stress-management, self-esteem, and the tools to apply health practices to daily life and stressful environments. In the Communication and Relationships section, students will learn about the 5 love languages, empathetic listening, the importance of consent and setting personal boundaries, and inappropriate relations with figures of authority. Students explore these topics through visual novel-like experiences with illustrations, social media simulations, texting simulations, and adaptivity. Through engaging characters, adaptive stories, conversation-based learning, and social media simulations, student will learn about managing stress and navigating interpersonal relationships through communication and self-advocacy.
In this class, students gain a better understanding of mental and emotional health through the eyes of a student struggling to make friends in a new school. This class includes audio, assessments, and interactive components.
In this class, students learn the risks of drinking alcohol; the effects alcohol has on the body; how habitual drinking can lead to alcohol dependency; how to set healthy boundaries in situations involving alcohol; and the genetic component to developing alcohol dependence. This class includes audio, assessments, and interactive components.
This course introduces students to sexually transmitted diseases and infections. Three students discover through Instagram that their favorite singer’s boyfriend has a herpes sore on his lip, which leads to a larger discussion of risks, symptoms, and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases and infections.
This class focuses on condom information and demonstration. It begins with the gym teacher introducing a special visitor in Health class. The visitor gives a comprehensive overview and complete demonstration of all condoms and the appropriate way to use them. Male, female, latex, polyurethane, natural skin, ribbed, studded, sensation, thin, extra thick, lubricated and other condoms are discussed as are water, silicone and oil based lubricants with the advantages and risks of each type of lubricant. She also discusses all possible prevention methods, including emphasizing abstinence as the safest method to avoid STDs and pregnancy.
This course introduces students to HIV and AIDS. The characters in this course learn about the symptoms, treatment, and risk prevention of HIV as a friend has recently been diagnosed with HIV.
In this class, students learn about vaping products and the risk of addiction. This class includes audio, assessments, and interactive components.
In this class, students learn about the risks of using nicotine and tobacco products and how to break bad habits. This class includes audio, assessments, and interactive components.
‘‘Self-Harm’’ follows Satya, who struggles with self-harm in response to anxiety and isolation from parental pressure. Satya’s parents are eventually able to realize that their pressure is causing harm, and look for resources to help Satya. While taking this lesson, students learn about the signs and effects of emotional abuse, as well as healthy strategies to control impulsive behaviors.
This course follows Erin as she learns about the importance of speaking up about her physical injuries and concerning symptoms. Students evaluate the importance of health screenings, immunizations, checkups (including self-exams) to detect and prevent diseases. While taking this course, students also learn about symptoms that indicate a need for an ear, eye, or dental examination.
This course follows Maria as she learns about how to take care of her health and prevent diseases. Students explore habits to maintain good personal hygiene and develop a preventive care plan. While taking this course, students also learn about the different types of illnesses: chronic, communicable, and degenerative.
In this course, students follow Carter and Linda Ortega as they learn about trauma, sleep disorders, self compassion, gaslighting, and personality disorders. Both are suffering from PTSD after they witness a disturbing scene and are experiencing paranoia related to their father's behavior. While taking this course, students will learn to define and explain causes of trauma and PTSD, identify coping methods for trauma based stress, and more.
This course follows the story of Josh as he learns about the fundamentals of healthy eating and nutrition. Students will establish an understanding of the five food groups, the importance of establishing a balanced eating routine, the impact unhealthy food has on their bodies, and ways to create nutrition based goals in their own lives. Students will practice identifying healthy eating resources in their communities and evaluate their ability to make healthy eating choices for themselves.
This package of three comprehensive and age-appropriate courses introduces students to physical health. Students will learn about nutrition, the human body's stages of life, exercise/fitness, and how the choices they make today will impact their future. Through a series of scenarios and interactive activities, students will explore the connection between physical behavior and longterm health, making them equipped with strategies to prevent chronic illness, and feel healthy and strong. Students will have access to three diverse courses and additional character details that add further context to each course.
This skills-based package of four courses introduces students to the concept of mental health. Students will learn how to manage stress and build resilience, and explore different mental and emotional disorders. Students explore these topics through simulated text messaging and social media experiences in this self-paced and interactive learning module. With this packaged learning experience, students will have access to three diverse courses and additional character details that add further context to each course.
This package of two comprehensive and age-appropriate courses introduces students to puberty, reproduction, anatomy, and the stages of pregnancy. Through a series of scenarios and interactive activities, students will explore the connection between sexual behavior and health and be equipped with preventive strategies leading to a healthy lifestyle. Students will have access to three diverse courses and additional character details that add further context to each course.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION
In this skills-based package of four courses, students will learn the effects of vaping, nicotine, and tobacco on the body and brain, recognize the importance of practicing healthy decision making, understand the danger of misusing prescription drugs, and explore the long and short term symptoms of alcohol use. In this skills-based package of five courses, students will learn how to manage relationships, understand how to recognize consent/ abuse, recognize the important of online safety relating to cyberbullying, trafficking, and identity protection, and grasp techniques in violence/injury prevention. This package of courses includes formative assessments and reflections, and uses social media and text messaging environments with interactions, gifs, videos and illustrations, providing an authentically engaging experience that adapts to the learner. Students will have access to five courses and additional character details that add further context to each course.
